Painting intention—

Humbled by the quest to find meaning and truth, painting is a vehicle of expression within that journey. Each painting represents a meaningful touchpoint along that unique path one carves when faced with life’s challenges. Beyond the point of turning back, it is the moment of acceptance and embrace--- the doorway of myth one steps through as the hero of one’s own journey.

The Process---

The square panel is the fundamental, elemental ground on which each painting is built.  The epitome of perfection, equal sides, right angles, balance and harmony, it carries a divine reverence to the purity of the moment-- of beginning--- devoid of reference or meaning---at the birth of potential. Penciled grid lines are drawn directly on the blank panel which serve as a grounding ritual enlisting the most fundamental geometry of intersections of the horizontal and vertical.  A reverent beginning, sacred and complete, it is at once reassuringly satisfying. While this grid will give way to the overlay of gesture and process, its history, though unseen, stands in homage to ritual and what came before--- It is personal to me as symbolic of the transformative nature of one’s quest.

 This context provides a ground on which abstract imagery and symbolism are brought forward, layer upon layer---uniting what went before, learning from it, discovering--peeling back the layers to find a suggestion of meaning.  Transformation and the soul’s quest. This is the truth of it. Mythical components of being.  Markers from the depths.
